ABSTRACT OF PAPER

Title: Fondements et perspectives de la « nouvelle économie politique »: variations sur le thème du pouvoir en économie
Author: HUPFEL Simon

The development of a new theoritical framework to analyse problems lying between the traditional fields of research in economics and politics has recently been pointed out by economists. The aim of the article is to give an interpretation of the changes implied by these new economic approaches, often referred to as the “new political economy”. We begin by giving some basic methodological considerations regarding the link between economics and politics, in order to see how the articulation between the two types of problems is handeld in two major research traditions in economics (namely public choice and North’s neo-institutionalism). We then use these results to show how the pioneering researches led by Persson and Tabellini (2000, 2003) on the one hand and by Acemoglu and Robinson (2006) on the other, constitute an innovative attempt for the economist to understand political problems. We also underline the great difficulties these approaches face and the challenges which result.
