ABSTRACT OF PAPER

Title: Freedom and Necessity in Markets Economies
Author: ALIERTA Mariano

What hapens to the working classes is an old preocupation of economists. For Wicksell, “political economy…is the theory of the manner of stisfying human needs which gives the greatest posible satisfaction to society as a whole” and therefore “consideration for the interests of the proletariat must emerge” (Lectures,1911). Wicksell treatment of economic theory does not imply the need to abandon the market economies as Joan Robinson exposes in 1970 (Freedom and Necessity) in the middle of a process that has taken the beliefs, in the last sixty years, towards freedom and markets Problably Mrs Robinson still debated in 1970 about freedom and necessity because the side of necessity in markets has been not so much developped as the side of freedom. Some new developments can be said about necessity and markets. Wages have to grow in economies with capital accumulation and increasing output of goods. And the experience of markets economies with technical change show that wages have grown. Markets leads fo political freedom but markets also lead to increasing welfare of employees. It is not total equality but means that freedoms and neccesities are compatible in markets economies.
